FOUR IMAGINARY BOYS 1979-1980

OCTOBER

23rd
Simon Gallup (bass) and Matthieu Hartley (keyboards) joined and the new line up started to rehearse intensely for the new tour planned the following month.

The songs included: KILLING AN ARAB, 10:15 SATURDAY NIGHT, ACCURACY, GRINDING HALT, SUBWAY SONG, FIRE IN CAIRO, THREE IMAGINARY BOYS, BOY'S DON'T CRY, JUMPING SOMEONE ELSE'S TRAIN, SEVENTEEN SECONDS, PLAY FOR TODAY, IN YOUR HOUSE, A FOREST, M, ANOTHER JOURNEY BY TRAIN.

The original titles for the new songs were quite surprising: AM (IN YOUR HOUSE, 44F (ANOTHER JOURNEY BY TRAIN), BLEAK ONE (A FOREST). None of the songs included their definitive lyrics.

16th
The new Cure started the Future Pastimes tour (15 dates in the UK and 12 more in continental Europe). 10:15 SATURDAY NIGHT'S bass solo at the end of the song was changed, Simon Gallup playing a different one based on the same notes. Keyboards parts were also added to 1979 songs, backing guitar chords or tunes form guitar riffs (BDC, Jumping...).

Paris, Bataclan SETLIST/PHOTOS/LYRICS
This concert was considered by both the (early) fans and the French press as mythical. Many felt that the group was bringing something noboyd saw before: fragility and strength combined in music as heard on A FOREST - lyrics (encore version) that night which ended with discordant guitar chords.

More rehearsals at Robert's parents house: SECRETS, THE FINAL SOUND, UNTITLED (A REFLECTION).

11 songs were recorded with Mike Hedges as producer. The budget was very tight as proved by the recording of the FINAL SOUND (meant to be a long instrumental piece but the tape reached the end!). Once the backing tracks were recorded, the band browsed through pages and pages of lyrics to sort out which ones would fit the music.
